The German re-unification in October 1990 also initiated a process of change for the German Armed Forces and the Luftwaffe. Previously, they were faced with the power of the outnumbering states of the Warsaw Pact and were organised and equipped for this political situation. After the end of this era, the entire structure needed to be reorganised to suit different threats. Units of the former GDR National People's Army had to be either integrated or dissolved and while their equipment required modernisation the available funds were limited. This book describes the change of the German Luftwaffe in detail, including its structure to date and into the future.
